IT Assistance

With nearly 30 years of personal and professional IT experience, I am happy to offer any assistance I can to help remedy your computer woes. If you are local to the Camden area, please feel free to reach out!

To keep things simple, I charge a flat half-hour rate. Below are some services I can provide, and rough estimates for completion.

Onsite Support: $35 / half-hour
Remote Support: $30 / half-hour

Computer Troubleshooting

Computer running slowly? Getting weird popup messages or blue screens?

If your computer is still under a warranty, the hardware (physical components) or even technical services, may be covered and I'd recommend checking there first. But I'm always happy to take a look at your computer to help track down the problem(s).

Troubleshoot: highly variable ~ 15 mins - several hours

Updates / Tuneup

Making sure your computer has the latest OS and manufacturer updates is important to its security and functionality. Microsoft recently allowed computers that had been previously under-specced, to now be compatible with their newest operating system. This is likely a free upgrade if your computer is running Windows 10, though it is usually a good idea to make sure your files are backed up before performing the upgrade, as things can sometimes go awry.

Update: ~ 2 hours
Backup + Update: ~ 2-3 hours

Data Backup

I think most would argue that the most important thing about your computer is the files on it. Your music, old family photos, and other documents. It is critical to make sure your files are backed up to another device, for when your computer crashes or harddrive dies. Given time, it will happen..

There are some free cloud storage options available, such as Microsoft OneDrive, or Google Drive. These allow your files to be saved to the company's servers for safekeeping. A more-traditional route is to save a copy of your important things to an external device, like a flashdrive.

We can talk about which options may be best for your needs.

Backup: depends on solution, ranging ~ 30 mins - several hours

Virus Elimination

Malware is a lot more commonplace than it was, and while anti-virus programs have gotten much more robust, so too have the methods hackers use to try to steal your information.

You must have some form of anti-malware program on any internet-connected computer these days, and there are a number of options: Windows Defender is built into newer Windows operating systems, and I've also had success with Kaspersky and Webroot in the past as well. If you suspect your computer is infected, try running virus definition updates with your AV program and running a scan.

I can help check your computer for infection and remove potential threats, though sometimes, a complete computer restore may be necessary if the operating system is too badly infected.

Clean: ~ 30 mins - an hour
OS Restore: ~ 2 hours

Remote Support

Depending on the type of request, I may be able to remotely connect to your computer to provide assistance. For this, I use an application called Rust Desk, which you can download and install for free.

  1. Click here or the button below to go to the Rust Desk download page

  2. On the page, click the link for your specific operating system (probably the 64-bit EXE for Windows)

  3. Once downloaded, double-click on the installer to run the program

  4. Once the program is running, I'll need you to give me the ID and One-time Password displayed in the top left
